Running Time
7 hrs

18yrs +

Tobacco Factory Theatres

Start Time

A practical and playful workshop exploring the starting points of puppetry. We will demystify the core principles of puppetry through practical activities and exercises.

With Emma Williams, who has been directing puppetry for 10 years, you will be looking at and manipulating a range of puppets from professional puppet makers and designers including those made by inventor Max Humphries, Dik Downey from Pickled Image and Designer Mary Drummond

Alongside Jess Jones, puppet maker designer and puppeteer, participants will also have the opportunity to make and work a basic puppet figure.  This workshop is for anyone who has ever wanted to work with puppetry but felt unsure about where to start.  In this session, any question is valid and we will do our best to answer them.  But we will also be exploring practically some of the basic principles of puppetry and revealing how easy, how difficult and how joyful the process can be. If you have always wanted to work with a puppet in community projects, school plays, in outdoor theatre or experimental performance or just as a hobby then this workshop is for you.
